I loved every minute of Friday, you ARE one of my heroes. Your mum inrtoduced herself to me by commenting on my tee shirt and said 'thats my daugher' can you imagine how special it was to watch your perfromance sat next to her and get the warmest of hugs from you afterwards. I'm so sorry you were upset, its very rude of them but you didnt let it show (true pro!) Rich Forbes was brilliant - never heard of him before and Romeo and Michelle were supurb. All for £12 was an absolute bargain, people don't know how lucky they are x
Oh Ren that is so sad to read about your experience of idiots not having the courtesy of keeping quiet during your set. It beggars belief that people can be so insensitive! However, it's great to see your resilience to it through the humour and positivity you display in this newsletter. Good on you!! :-). Great to hear that you're pushing it in yoga too! Sending love and support from the South West - M XXX
I wrote this on Twitter after the gig but it bears repeating - nothing boils my piss faster than people talking at gigs when an artist is onstage.
It's entitlement, selfishness and downright rudeness of the most boneheaded level. Why on earth are you there if not to listen to the music. Live music is really precious to me, it was truly tough during lockdown to not be able to go to some of my favourite venues and get that fix of art being created in front of you. Although live streams were good it's not the same.
After recently going to see Kathryn Williams in a church venue I had hoped this would be a similar experience, great acoustics and a respectful audience. I was *this* close to dropping the c-bomb Friday night. You should not have felt embarrassed and I despise those people for the way they made you feel. It wasn't you that caused that, they wouldn't have chatted their way through Aretha's set if she'd come back to life. It's plain ignorance.
I think if I hadn't spoken to Michele after your set I probably would have left early cos it so soured the night for me. I'm glad I didn't because she and Romeo really raised my spirits.
I hope next time I see you sing it's among better people - and there were some lovely people there that I met - and you know that we stand with you.
I'm always reminded of Elvis Costello's 'Suit Of Lights' about the nights he had to fight to be heard
And I thought I heard "The Working Man's Blues"
I went to work that night and wasted my breath
Outside they're painting tar on somebody
It's the closest to a work of art that they will ever be
I have never been able to understand the ignoranuses that go to gigs and chat all the way through!?!? Why bother going to the gig at all?!?! Just go to a random pub and chat shit with yer mates instead so folk can enjoy the gig they’ve paid to go and see!
Love that you share insights and your experiences Ren but gutted to hear about such ignorance. Sadder still for them...they missed out on some truly emotionally charged raw and beautiful talent!
I can’t add anything to the comments below, specifically Dave DFB’s, which totally sum up my thoughts. You have the most beautiful voice (as I’ve probably told you on many occasions), and can captivate anyone with an ounce of intelligence. But you can’t educate Pork, and as we all know, empty vessels make more noise. Shame on them. I can’t wait to come and listen to you again. xx
Wow. I find this hard to believe. I saw you sing a long time ago now. I’ve just had to google the name of the famous person I went to see (James something...it was Morrison, in Bath, but I forgot his surname, and what he sang) I haven’t forgotten your voice though, totally memorable and unique. I’ve always looked out for your gigs but not much local to me. Some people are just rude so ignore them, their loss. I sound like a stalker, I’m not, I just thought your voice was fabulous.
Sorry your church appearance was ruined by a load of gobby idiots, Ren. Don’t
take it personally, just don’t ever enter that place again, they don’t deserve you. PS, I love the photo of you and your Mam. Does she have to take her hat off before going through the front door?

Much love x
That should read 'would've chatted through'
